How it works

Four steps to Mombasa

1

Quote & booking

Tell us the vehicle make, model, year and where it is in the USA. We quote ocean freight and book space on the next sailing.

2

Drop-off or pickup

Deliver the vehicle to our facility, or we arrange transport from anywhere in the USA β€” including auction yards (Copart, IAAI).

3

Export & sail

We handle the US export documentation (original title required) and load the vehicle for the voyage to Mombasa.

4

Clear & collect

On arrival we support customs clearance. Pay KRA duties, then drive away β€” or have it delivered upcountry.

Know before you ship

Kenya vehicle import rules

The 8-year rule

Under the KEBS 8-year rule, a used vehicle imported during 2026 generally must have been first registered on or after January 1, 2019 β€” subject to the latest KEBS notice, inspection requirements and any applicable exemptions. Check before you buy.

Right-hand drive only

Kenya requires right-hand-drive vehicles. Left-hand-drive vehicles are not permitted for normal registration, with narrow exceptions for special-purpose equipment.

Duties & taxes

Kenya Revenue Authority assesses import duty, excise duty, VAT and levies based on the vehicle's customs value. These are payable by the importer and are separate from freight charges. We can help you estimate before you commit.

Documents you need

Original US title (no liens), a copy of your ID/passport and KRA PIN for clearance. We prepare the export declaration and shipping documents for you.

Inspection

Used vehicles require a pre-shipment roadworthiness inspection (QISJ) to comply with KEBS standards. We guide you through scheduling it.

Personal effects inside

Ask us before packing personal goods inside the vehicle β€” rules on contents vary and customs may inspect. We'll advise what's safe to include.

Import rules are set by Kenyan authorities and can change β€” we confirm current requirements with every quote.
